‘A Rich and Bitter sediment of life that ferments for your pleasure! We rise from the cellar and march on to the world’s stage.’

Founded by Shane Gough, the name ‘Foot of the Barrel’ tells the story of Shane’s Grandad, who once worked at the Guinness Factory in Ireland having been found under a leaking Barrel of Guinness a little bit tiddly his employment there didn’t last very long. The ‘Foot’ comes from Shane’s good friends Grandad, who’s regular saying, being very Yorkshire, was ‘I’ll go t’ foot of our stairs’.

Formed in February 2015, Foot of the Barrel (FOTB) began life as a small group of actors, keen to combine their skills and ‘make something good happen’. From those simple beginnings, FOTB has gone from strength to strength in its hometown of Brighouse.
FOTB initially produced smaller (but artistically challenging) productions like Harold Pinter’s celebrated ‘The Dumb Waiter’ and John Godber’s ‘Bouncers’ for the Halifax Comedy Festival 2015 and the Brighouse Arts Festival 2015.
As their production team grew and their reputation for high quality products spread they bravely tackled much larger productions. FOTB have continued to attract local ‘creative types’. 2016’s programme consisted of full scale show’s such as ‘Allo Allo’ for the Brighouse 1940’s weekend and was behind the scenes of a very successful tour of ‘Brassed Off’.
2017, for the first time, saw the team stretched as we had two productions running simultaneously. We had a very demanding mini tour of Yorkshire with Nick Dear’s ‘Frankenstein’ throughout May & June. As well as the very nostalgic and popular ‘Goodnight Mr. Tom’ for the Brighouse 1940’s weekend.
We strive to deliver Theatre in various forms, as yet we are to produce a musical but it is on the horizon. Our aims are to entertain, to ask question’s and above all else, enjoy.

Since February 2015 things have developed from our band of actors first get together, whilst we still ensure an enjoyable and fun journey for anybody who works with us, more opportunities have presented themselves.
Following the success of our 2015 Brighouse Comedy Festival FOTB have continued to push into new areas, launching a series of regular Comedy Night’s in Brighouse and the surrounding areas. More recent venues have included Waterfront Hotel, North’s, Rastrick Bowling Club and The Archers at Dean Clough attracting headline acts such as Paul Sinha (The Chase and Radio 4’s Paul Sinha’s History revision), Gary Delaney (Mock the Week), Smug Roberts, Vikki Stone, Shazia Mirza and more. Our regular compere’s include Anthony J. Brown and Elliot J. Huntley.
We are always on the lookout for new venues, should you wish to play host to some Stand Up- Comedy, guaranteed to loosen your chuckle muscles and deliver a great night’s entertainment. Please get in touch.

FOTB is run by Shane Gough (Artistic Director), Andrew Hawley (Executive Producer), Damian Shalks (Education and Community Outreach), Emma Noble (Marketing and Events Co-Ordinator) and Samantha Curwen (Set Design and Construction).
